3 Lessons Being in TATLER Taught Me (That you can use!)

by moneymind

I’m definitely too geeky to be in Tatler Magazine, the century-old Conde Naste literary and society journal. Yet I’m in Tatler! And honoured and humbled to be.

But it didn’t occur by magic or luck. Instead I applied very strategic actions to increase the chances of opportunity occurring.
Here’s what I learned on the journey of making this happen, despite believing it was too distant to reach.

1. Advocacy

What do you want to aim for right now? Can you advocate more for yourself to reach in that direction today?
I withered under the thought that I wasn’t cool or trendy enough to ever be in Tatler.
To counterbalance that thought, I took opposing action – writing to Tatler about MoneyMind’s launch. Turns out, they have a Front & Female section on womens empowerment that this topic fit perfectly into. I didn’t know that, but if I hadn’t tried I wouldn’t have found out. How can you better advocate for yourself today to step closer to something you want?

2. Aim high

What are you feeling is too far for you to reach right now? Is self doubt holding you back?
Being realistic is fine (eg. I’m very unlikely to put in the work to become an astronaut) but if we are bowing out because of our own thoughts, we may need a clean up!

Try anyways! What’s one areas you’d like to aim for? Go for it!
Fail forward and keep gathering information on how to BE THE PERSON who is in that role.
What do you need to do? How can you leverage your skills more efficiently?
What new behaviours do you need to develop – or change?
For me in my mind, Tatler was a moon shot. But I tried, and landed.

3. Serve

How can you serve the result you want? Not just get the role or goal? But SERVE that role to give it 100%? To really optimize yourself and your behaviours to ensure you being in that role makes it shine?
How can you streamline and do less to achieve more for the team?
In what ways can you focus on serving and delivering value to the team, company, customers?
Or even to our family / relationships overall?
How can we serve towards an aligned purpose? What behaviours do we need to adopt / drop?
In my case, I needed to drop my self doubt and remember my role is to advocate for my business, aim high, and serve my customers. As my responsibility, for them, and for myself as the head and founder of this company.

And that’s what I learned from my journey getting into Tatler despite lack of self belief!

The one takeaway?
Act anyways.
Take action towards the outcome you want.
Doubts are just spectators, you’re on the field. GO FOR IT.
